TUESDAY

I know it has been officially fall for weeks, but today it REALLY feels like it. It was in the 40s this morning across the District- and while it’s warming up as you read this, it may have you itching to find a new apartment to hibernate in this winter. Here are a few I found across town!

$1450 – 1 BD/ 1 BA – Hip Petworth Studio w/ Utilities Included!

What makes it great: This is one of the nicer English  basement renovations I’ve come across recently! It (or so it appears!) is brightly lit – with great hardwood floors. It features an open-concept floor plan leading to a “junior bedroom” in the back. Colorful accents will make decorating this place a really fun project. There’s also a great fenced in backyard to share with the townhouse’s other residents. Easy access to Metro – and not too far of a walk from Columbia Heights stores. The fact that utilities are included means you won’t be shocked by rising heating or cooling costs that max out your budget.

Why you may think twice: This is essentially one big room- with no doors to separate your living space from bedroom. The lighting appears to be well thought out, but if you’re someone who thrives on natural light, English basements can be tough (especially in the winter!). While its great to have access to a laundry room, this one appears to be a bit chaotic!

$1575- Beautifully Sunny Studio in Adams Morgan – furnished optional

What makes it great: Ever see those perfectly put-together studios and get frustrated that you’ll never be able to figure out a way to make your small space so manageable? Here’s your chance to fall right into that lifestyle! This Adams Morgan apartment has the option of being furnished from the moment you put your bags down. While it only covers 400 square feet, four large windows make this space appear larger – and the furniture has been set up to provide separate living and sleeping spaces.

Why you may think twice: Not everyone is supposed to cram their lives into these small spaces – if you’re one who loves to stretch out, you may want to pass on this spot!

$2375- 1 BD (+den!)/1 BA – Beautiful 1 BR and 1 Den Apartment with TWO Fireplaces (Adams Morgan)

What makes it great: How many of your friends can brag about having a fireplace in their home when it gets cold out? How about TWO? You can be sure to stay warm in this AdMo apartment this winter (not to mention there’s also central heat). The exposed brick and curved window add even more charm to this second-floor townhouse unit. The location appears to be great – not too far from the fun of Adams Morgan or the Red Line (Woodley Park Station is a 12 minute walk). This looks like a great fit for a couple or someone who wants more space than your average one bedroom – the den adds some extra square footage!

Why you may think twice: It does not appear the den is hidden away at all – this may really be an extensive of your living room. It looks like one of those units you’ll have to see in person to really understand. No pets allowed. I’m also hoping the pink flooring is rugs- not carpet- otherwise that’s a waste of some beautiful hardwood floors!!

$2550 – 1 BD/1 BA – 900 sq ft – Renovated 1 Bedroom/1 Bathroom Apartment with Old World Charm (Logan Circle)

What makes it great: This apartment looks like it could be an art collector’s home – even with barely anything inside. This unit combines all the things I love about renovations (new kitchen appliances, freshly painted walls, etc.) with the character of old DC (exposed brick, charming curb appeal). The location is also great – very central to Metro stations (close to Mount Vernon & Metro Center). Amenities inside the apartment include a washer/dryer, a fireplace – and a private terrace.

Why you may think twice: The layout of this unit is a bit confusing when looking at photos. There is a loft space so if this is going to be a shared home, privacy may be an issue. Street parking can be a headache in this area.
