Happy Halloween! Today’s listings are anything but scary! There is a lot available for immediate move-in and even more out there if you’re just starting your search for a new home for December 1. Enjoy!
$1500- 1 BD/1 BA -625 sq ft- Top floor 1 bedroom in the heart of Columbia Heights
What makes it great: What a great find – for a great price! This apartment is so close to all the action Columbia Heights offers (shops, restaurants, Metro access) – but without the high price tag! The birch counter top that opens the kitchen up into the living room is what caught my eye first. While the view from this “penthouse” may not be anything specific, there’s something about being on the top floor that makes it even more appealing to me.
Why you may think twice: This looks like one of those places I’d really want to see in person before I fell in love with it. It appears a little cluttered, but it’s easier to imagine how your own items would fit if you can see it for yourself.
$1650 – 1 BD/ 1 BA – Sun filled, modern condo in a great location (Foxhall/Cathedral Heights)
What makes it great: For a full one bedroom (not studio) in this part of town, this is a pretty good deal! I lived in the Cathedral Heights area for nearly a year – and while it’s not the center of nightlife, it has a lot of perks (safe, quiet streets, great neighborhood feel, & awesome views). This apartment appears to have a nice open layout with space for both living and dining areas. The granite countertops in the updated kitchen also caught my eye.
Why you may think twice: No pets allowed. No dedicated parking space (I’m not certain of this exact area – but it can be tough to find a spot if you work normal business hours). No easy Metro access.
$1850 – 0 BD/ 1 BA – 445 sq feet – Charming furnished studio (Dupont)
What makes it great: The biggest appeal of this apartment is the location: walking distance to Dupont, downtown, Georgetown, & more. It would also be a great place for someone looking for something temporary. It is already furnished and is only $100 more/month for a lease shorter than one year. The furniture appears to be a good fit for the small space: dedicated areas for sleeping, living, and eating – and plenty of storage space.
Why you may think twice: 445 square feet is not very much! If you have any furniture of your own you don’t want to part with, good luck finding a spot to store it in here.
$5500 – 4 BD/2 BA – 2150 sq ft- Huge and sunny top 2 floors of row house (Adams Morgan/Kalorama)
The price tag on this one is steep when you first see it – but if you’re looking for a place to share – this isn’t so bad!
What makes it great: This would be an incredible place for a group of friends to live right after school (or later in life, if you’re not sick of sharing!). Each of the four bedrooms are large enough to fit a queen or king bed. Splitting this evenly among four roommates would cost each person $1,375 – not too bad! Great natural light and charm (fireplaces, built-in bookshelves, and do I spy a clawfoot tub?). The listing says it is under a ten minute walk to the Woodley Park Metro (red line access). Washer & dryer in unit.
Why you may think twice: Paying nearly $1400 – and still living with three other people isn’t everyone’s idea of relaxing. There’s no word on the cost of amenities so that price may be even higher each month.
