What makes it great: This may be one of my favorite I’ve posted about in Columbia Heights. My favorite features are the high ceilings and the amount of storage — 2 foyer closets, 2 full bedroom closets and built-in shelves. There’s also a great wrap-around counter to give you more room for food prep. This unit is on the second floor – and there’s an elevator which is always a plus!
Why you may think twice: You may need to act fast – there’s an open house this weekend – and not much quite like this for this price in the area.
$1900 – 1 BD/ 1 BA – 600 sq feet – One Bedroom Apartment in Shaw
Closest Metro: .3 mi to Shaw-Howard University (Green/Yellow Lines)
Utilities: Nothing mentioned. W/D in unit
What makes it great: This looks like a really great apartment in an awesome neighborhood that’s getting hotter (and more expensive) by the month. From the photos, it appears this 600 square feet is used wisely – there appears to be plenty of room. Perks include: entrance way, recess lighting, kitchen island/breakfast area, and barn sink. I also think it says something when the current tenant mentions they are sad to leave – I feel like that makes it seem more special!
Why you may think twice: This would be taking over someone’s lease – which can be complicated. Basement apartments also aren’t for everyone.
$1999-1 BD/1 BA – 600 sq feet – Apartment (Capitol Hill)
Closest Metro: .5 mi to Eastern Market (Orange, Silver, Blue lines)
Utilities: Nothing mentioned. W/D in unit
What makes it great: This is a great two-story apartment that can have a great ‘home’ vibe – even in 600 square feet. This looks like a nice situation because while it is two stories, it doesn’t appear to be a loft space which can be complicated to share – even with a significant other. The post also mentions parking – but doesn’t elaborate.
Why you may think twice: This post leaves a lot to be desired (starting with the one word title: ‘Apartment’). You’ll need to contact landlord to get even some of the most basic info on this one.
$2595 – 1 BD/1 BA – 1100 sq feet – Lovely English Basement w/ Garage Parking (Dupont Circle)
Closest Metro: .2 mi to Dupont Circle (Red Line)
Utilities: Water, electric, gas included. W/D in unit, GARAGE PARKING
What makes it great: I clicked for the garage parking, I stayed for the character. There are few places where you can find garage parking in DC (especially Dupont) that aren’t newly built construction. This is filled with it: exposed brick throughout, a decorative fireplace, and built-in shelves to name a few of my favorites. While its a garden apartment – it appears to have decent natural light (at least in the living room) thanks to big windows. While this may be priced closer to many two bedrooms, at 1100 square feet – it will likely feel huge when you’re inside.
Why you may think twice: The price changes from the title to the body of theposting – its only $5, but you may want to check to make sure there aren’t any other inconsistencies.
