Happy Tuesday! I hope you’re enjoying this little taste of spring after the bitter cold start to January. If you’re looking for a new place to call home come February 1, there’s a few great options below – hopefully something for everyone, no matter your price point!
$1500 – 1 BD/1 BA – 800 sq feet- Spacious 1 BR in Quiet Central Columbia Heights
It’s becoming increasingly rare I come across full one bedrooms that are not garden level/English basement apartments so this one will likely get snatched up quickly!
What makes it great: This is a corner unit so there is a lot of space to spread out in this one bedroom. The current tenant has what appears to be a full or queen size bed – and still has plenty of room for a desk, dresser and other furniture. The post mentions there is a large walk-in closet (no photos). This is a great location – less than half a mile from the Columbia Heights Metro (Green/Yellow) and easy access to multiple buses. Being on the corner also means a lot of windows – and natural light. It already has a bright & cheery look because of the bright colored paint.
Why you may think twice: For some people, those colors are already a deal breaker (or a possible extra expense to paint). The kitchen may be a bit cramped – but it may just be how the photos were taken. No mention of laundry
Amenities/Extra Info: Water/WiFi included, gas/electricity are tenant’s responsibility, parking space available for additional fee
Having lived in Adams Morgan – this seems like an ideal location: it is close enough to the fun of 18th Street while still being really close to the Woodley Park Metro for easy access to the Red Line.
What makes it great: I love a great boutique building and this one appears to be a great place to call home. It is described as a ‘garden-style’ condominium that is ‘well-maintained and secure.’ It’s a top floor unit (third or fourth floor) with the original hardwood floors, built-in cabinet space and a renovated kitchen.
Why you may think twice: Looking to be filled ASAP so if you’re not ready to move in soon – this one may pass you by.
Amenities/Extra Info: water/gas/sewer/recycling included; tenant responsible for electricity/internet; only cats allowed (additional $50/month); laundry in building
This is a pricier one bedroom than I like to feature, but I haven’t been able to find much with this much character. It’s also an added bonus to have a parking spot included in rent around this part of town.
What makes it great: Just like the Columbia Heights apartment above, 800 square feet goes a long way in a one bedroom. While the kitchen doesn’t appear huge, it looks like it has nice versions of all the necessities. The post also mentions a separate alcove for a dining room. There are multiple closets with built-in shelving, two entrance doors and garden access.
Why you may think twice: While the photos included make it appear to have a lot of charm, they don’t show much of the apartment itself. There is an open house listed if you want to see it in person. It is also a first floor unit which can be a deal-breaker.
Amenities/Extra Info: Parking space, water/gas included; access to W/D (free); tenant responsible for electricity/internet; no pets allowed
$3000- 3 BD/2 BA – 1200 sq feet – Stunning Cape Cod Bungalow Available Feb. 1 (Manor Park)
This is a great little house that will make you WANT to look for roommates to share it with! While it likely can’t be an even divide because the master bedroom is a suite with its own bathroom, this could be a great deal for three people – or a couple who wants some extra space.
What makes it great: This appears to be a great use of a small space. 1200 square feet doesn’t seem like much to get three bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and two full bathrooms in – but even with all the previous tenants’ furniture – it still doesn’t look cramped. The master bedroom is an awesome loft space with slanted ceilings and extra space just outside the door. This is less than a mile from the Takoma Metro Station and just over a mile to Fort Totten so it’s easy access to Red, Green & Yellow Lines. There is a small back porch and lawn that provides great outdoor space if that 1200 square feet gets cramped!
Why you may think twice: I can’t tell which of the photos is of the third bedroom – it may be significantly smaller than the other two.
Amenities/Extra Info: No utilities included; private W/D, landscaping included; pets allowed (with deposit)
