Last night I went and looked at the Can’t Beat Location apartment that I posted a few days ago. I will get to the apartment review but I want to talk a little bit about the company that represents the listing, Chatel Real Estate. Granted I am coming off of a bad experience on Swann Street, it was such a relief to see a nice place. The agent was prompt in responding to my email and was unbelievably understanding when I was running late. I hate when people are late so I was overly apologetic. I was met by the agent at the building. The showing was casual but most importantly, I was comfortable with the agent. He took me up the second floor of the small condo building. On the way, there was exposed brick!
Inside the apartment was amazing. The bay window and hardwood floors were just as pictured. I loved the kitchen cabinets and countertops. The butcher block countertops are a nice change from granite or even worse, granite look alike. I am not a big cook so the appliances didn’t bother me, but the fridge is being replaced. The bar stools do come with the unit! There were cute built-ins, perfect for a media center and small desk area. The bedroom was a nice size. The view wasn’t great. You look out to a fire escape and the back of buildings. The closet space was good and the bathroom was spacious. There were cute shutters in the bathroom.
Then came a few disappointments. Water is the only utility included and the agent’s estimate of utilities was $120. That means this apartment is really $1870. Yikes! He also told me that a couple had come and looked today and was VERY interested. Could this be a friendly tip or a push for me to sign? It’s hard to know. There were only two washers and dryers to service the building.
I think the apartment is simply too pricey for me. However, I would encourage any prospective renters to work with Chatel Real Estate. They have a low budget website with listings. Don’t let that deter you. I can’t speak to their management abilities but the agent assured me that someone is available 24 hours a day. I sometimes feature their apartments but if you want to look on your own, check out their site. I think they are worth considering. On the other hand, if you have had a bad experience with them, let me know.
