Halloween marketing efforts are tacky, so I am not going to tell you about “spooky good deals” or “hauntingly beautiful” units out there. Well, I sort of just did. Moving on. Craig’s List has a lot of good options today, it was difficult to highlight only a few. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, the last week of the month is the best time to search for a new place, so carve out some time in your calendar this weekend and go visit these places before they disappear…. ok, last reference, I promise!
$4000 / 3br – 2117ft2 – Cap Hill Row Home Union Station/H St. (228 G St. NE)
Why you’ll love it: This sprawling Capitol Hill row house really caught my eye. I love that the owners kept so much of it’s historic charm, but made interesting updates by adding modern details (like the cabinets shown above). The post’s author was thoughtful in writing a detailed description of the property, and included Google Map images to show the house’s proximity to local schools and Union Station. This much effort put into a post makes me think you’re in for an awesome landlord/tenant experience.
Why you should keep looking: Big row houses like this can lead to expensive utility bills. I’d say this house is more fitting for a family who can control power usage. In my experience, it’s tough to be the nagging roommate always asking people to turn lights off.
$3299 / 2br – 1275ft2 – Prime Shaw location, 2 bed 2 /12 bath, walk to metro, shops, bars rest (Shaw)
What makes it great: I had to double-check that I didn’t post this a few weeks back as it looked so familiar, but then I realized most Shaw row houses do look the same. Modern, clean, and spacious is how I’d describe this two bedroom option. My favorite feature is the two and a half baths, which is an ideal situation when living with a roommate. You’ll be happy that your stuff will be kept private from your roommate, and house guests.
What concerns me: The price is a bit high, but expected in this neighborhood.
$3100 / 2br – 1239ft2 – Stunning Capitol Hill Two Bed + Den with Sweeping City Views! (Capitol Hill)
What a find! This place has sooo many windows, translating to amazing natural light and gorgeous views. You rarely see places with this much sun exposure. What I also like is that you’re only required to pay electric here — all of the other utilities are covered. This is a perfect spot for those of you looking for three bedrooms on a budget. I can’t see photos of the den, but it’s likely that you could convert it to a third bedroom.
My only concern: Apparently there is garage parking in this building, but it doesn’t say if the cost is included in your rent, or if you are limited to just one spot. Ask about parking when you apply.
$1495 / 2br – 750ft2 – Two Apartments Available December 1st (1306 and 1308 Good Hope Rd SE) (Washington, DC)
What makes this place great: This is an amusing post for sure, but humor aside, you should really check this place out. The owner did an awesome job renovating two apartments within this building. As the first line reads, “You get bang for your buck. 750 square feet of pure renovated bliss for only $1495 a month.”
Why you should think twice: I’m always asked, “what is the next up and coming neighborhood?” It seems like every inch of D.C. has been renovated and overrun by new, pricey apartment buidlings. Anacostia is one area that I don’t know much about, but can assume it is on the rise, especially with the recent opening of The Wharf. If safety is a concern, ask for an honest conversation with the landlord about what the area is like.
$1800 / 2br – 1100ft2 – Eckington/ Bloomingdale – Two Bedroom Apartment- 36 Todd Place, N.E. (36 Todd Place, N.E.)
Why I chose it: I debated featuring this place because there are only two photos in the post, and not ones that really show off the unit. Looking closely at the featured picture, I am confused by the kitchen’s cabinetry, are my eyes playing tricks on me, or are the sink’s cabinet doors backwards? Why I ultimately decided to include it is because of the amazing price. I rarely if ever see a two bedroom option this low.
Word to the wise: Posts like this are often too good to be true. Ask for more photos and details before touring.
I’ll save the rest of my bad jokes for next week. Happy almost-Halloweekend EBDC readers.
