Is March the month you’re making a move? Whether you plan to live alone or are home-hunting with a roommate, here are a few options to brighten your (already sunny and WARM!!) Tuesday. Another quick note: all of these units have their own washer/dryers (if you rent one, can I come over to do mine?)
$1550- 1 BR/1 BA – 950 sq feet- Large 1-Bedroom Apartment (AU Park)
Closest Metro: 1 mile to Friendship Heights & Tenleytown Stations (red line)
Utilities: all included; laundry in unit
Parking: not available (likely ample street parking – very residential neighborhood)
What makes it great: This is a newly renovated apartment in one of the safest areas of town. The built-in bookshelves in the living room caught my eye at first– and there’s a large walk-in closet as well. This is a quiet, residential area that is a great location for someone who needs easy access to American University or the surrounding area or someone who works in Maryland but wants to live in DC. All utilities included is great for someone budgeting ahead – you know exactly what you’re paying each month.
Why you may think twice: While this has relatively easy access to Metro, it is a better location for someone with a car. It is also a unit in the basement of someone’s home, which isn’t everyone’s ideal situation.
$1700- 1 BR/1 BA- Georgetown One Bedroom
Closest Metro: .8 miles to Dupont Circle (Red Line) & .8 miles to Foggy Bottom (Orange, Silver, Blue lines)
Utilities: All included, laundry in unit
Parking: “Easy street parking”
What makes it great: Two words: spiral staircase. I love the charm they add to apartments – so this one has my pick. (Con: moving furniture up spiral staircases= no fun). The other perk is the location: this is close enough to Georgetown to enjoy M Street & the neighborhood perks but not so far that you’re stranded without Metro access. Another win is all utilities included.
What you may think twice: Not necessarily a reason to think twice, but you’ll need to follow up for more information. Very little detail provided in post so if you’re interested, you’ll probably have a few more questions for the landlord than usual.
$2825 – 2 BR/1 BA – 850 sq feet- Stunning Condo with Two Exterior Parking Space (Columbia Heights)
Closest Metro: .4 miles to Georgia Ave- Petworth, .5 miles to Columbia Heights (Green/Yellow Lines),
Utilities: Water Included. Tenant responsible for Electric, Gas, Cable/Internet, Laundry in unit
Parking: 2 (TWO!) spots included
What makes it great: Okay, so I know a lot of people don’t have cars in D.C. but I do so I still am focused on the apartment that comes with TWO spots. Alright, now to the other highlights: awesome open floor plan makes this living room/kitchen combo look gigantic. There’s also a great deck that would be perfect for days like today (73 degrees in February – I feel like I’m back in Miami!). Both bedrooms have access to the deck.
Why you may think twice: Two bedrooms, only one bathroom. That can be a problem for roommates – especially when this apartment is on the pricier side for the neighborhood.
$3000 – 2 BR/2 BA – 975 sq feet – Capitol Hill 2 BR/2 BA
Closest Metro: .9 miles to Union Station (Red Line), .9 miles to Eastern Market Station (Blue/Orange/Silver Lines)
Utilities: Laundry in unit, other info n/a
Parking: “ample street parking” – Zone 6
What makes it great: This is a gorgeous unit: the kind I dreamt about while watching House of Cards and hoping to move to DC. It is has the charm/character/coziness that you’d hope for in a 1920s renovation but still large enough that all your friends who claim NYC is better will be incredibly jealous. In addition to the charm (exposed brick, bay window, clawfoot tub), it has modern upgrades that make it super classy (granite countertops, stainless steel appliances). The location is right at the center of all the DC action – with two Metro stops nearby that provide easy access elsewhere.
Why you may think twice: The only reason I’d find myself turning down this place is the price. If you can swing it, I say go for it (and then invite me over for brunch?). Another note: this place isn’t available until April 1 so if March was your target, you may have to hold out for a month.
